Episode 2: The Fear

 

The next day, at 4:00 pm

 

Abhi on call: “Neil! Where are you? I’m bored out of my mind here.”

Neil: “I told you to stay in the village. What are you doing there?” (Sarcastic)

Abhi: “I’ve got work on the farm, you know that.”

Neil: “I’m really not feeling energetic enough to pick you up from the village today. And Litu’s got a fever; we got caught in the rain while coming back from that hill.”

Abhi: “Don’t ruin my Sunday, man!”

Neil: “Alright, fine. I’ll be there in half an hour.”

After picking up Abhi, they headed to Litu’s house.

Neil: “Come down!” (On Call)

Litu: “Wait!”

Litu’s mom from the balcony: “He’s got a fever. He needs to rest.”

Just then, Litu came down and hopped onto the scooter. “I’ll come soon,” he said.

Abhi took the wheel, Neil sat in the middle, and Litu squeezed in the back.

“Where to?” they all said together, bursting into laughter.

“Idiots!” Litu muttered, shaking his head.

They made their way to a nearby park with a few snacks and some Coke.

Neil: “Hey! You never sent me those pictures. What am I supposed to post on Instagram?”

Litu: “Okay, okay! I’ll send them when I get home.”

Neil: “Fine!”

Abhi: “Hey! Jerks, find me a job. You guys are all set; what about me?”

Litu: “We’re still not stable. I’m working on it. And honestly, I don’t even know what’s going on in his head—whether he’s staying with me or not.” (Pointing at Neil)

Neil: “You’ve got the farm job, don’t you?”

Abhi: “Ouch! Not funny!”

Neil: “Seriously though, the farm business might be better than our jobs. Think about it.”

Litu: “I’ve got a program on Thursday; I need to practice. What a bad time to get sick.”

Neil: “So you’re skipping the office on Thursday?”

Litu: “I’ll just take a half-day.”

Abhi: “Leave! Office! I want to be an office guy.”

Neil: “Be patient. Learn new skills, add them to your resume. You’ll land something better.”

Litu: “Drop me home! Guys, I’m really not feeling well. We’ll catch up on Saturday.”

Abhi: “Hey! Neil are you back with Anku?”

Litu: “What??? Shut Up!”

Neil: “Are you guys’ nuts?”

Litu: "You are hiding something."

Conversation continues ….

 

Bridge to the other side ....

On Saturday,

Right after work, Litu starts sending the pictures from last Saturday to Neil while riding the bus home. In a couple of them, there’s a strange black shadow beside Neil on that red stone. When he looked closer, he noticed that in every picture of Neil from that day, there’s a shadowy figure right beside him, staring directly into the camera. Litu couldn’t believe his eyes—his throat went dry, his skin started to sweat. He’d seen plenty of horror movies, but this time, the fear was real. He stared at the pictures in shock for a few minutes, then panicked and called Neil, who, as usual, didn’t answer. After a few attempts, Neil finally picked up.

Litu: “Are you okay? Where are you?”

Neil: “I’m out for some work. I’ll see you tomorrow evening, okay? Bye.” And he hung up.

Litu: “Wait!!!! Hello!! Idiot!”

Litu to himself: “We are so FFFFed UP…”

Epilogue:

Here are some adventures of two teen boys, in which they encountered some bizarre incidents that affected their lives and made them see the world differently. Litu, an 18-year-old tall and muscular, crack-headed boy, is an emerging singer. And Neil, a 19-year-old skinny weirdo, is fascinated by the concept of vampires and ruins. Together, they are walking psychopaths. Since their kindergarten days, they have had only one friend who claims that they are abnormally normal beings. Abhi, a harmless creature, has a built-in 0.5x speed while processing. Well! Enough with the intro. Let's roll.

 

Episode 1: The College on the Hill

 

Neil: "Come on, sloth, pick it up."

Litu: "Try one more time. And what do you want?"

Neil: "The 6th time!!! I'm calling him for the 6th time. If I'd called Anku for the 6th time back then, she wouldn't have broken up with me."

Litu: "At least you had one flower. My life is deserted."

Neil: "Grab that corn puff and coke."

Litu: "What next?"

Neil: "Let's head to that hill near Abhi's house. If he calls back, we'll pick him up. Or we'll go on our own."

 

Litu turns the bike towards the hill. The hill is named after its village, called "Bajra Hills." There is a government degree college of Arts situated on the hilltop. You need to climb half a kilometer straight to reach there. Despite being on the hilltop, there is a proper path leading towards the college, where a car can easily fit on that road. The entire hill is covered with tall and densely populated trees. It gives a cinematic look. I wonder what it looks like in the winter—beautiful and chilly, isn’t it? Sounds like a dream college.

 

The sun is going to set soon, so a few parts of the forest have started to look darker. Midway towards the college gate, there is a small broken shrine, and by the looks of it in that light, it seems old and dusty. On that way, a few boys were encountered smoking weed. Crossing them, they reached the gate of that college.

 

"Barja Degree College, 100% Placement Guarantee" was written on the side wall of the gate. And even if the gate was closed, there was still plenty of space beside the wall, where a bike could easily go through. There must be great architecture behind it.

 

Neil: "100% placement. Here!!!"

Litu: "Of course, if there is only one student admitted to this Nevermore Academy, then they'll definitely guarantee it."

Neil: "Even if there's one, do you think the recruiter will come here?"

Litu: "Online, maybe."

Neil: "Yeah! That will do. Or just the weed effects. Hey! Abhi is calling."

Neil: "6th time, I've called you 6th time, idiot!"

Abhi: "I was on farm duty, assigned by my father. It was hectic."

Neil: "We're on Bajra Hills, catch us."

Abhi: "I don't think I'll be able to. I'm very tired. I'll see you guys tomorrow. And tomorrow is Sunday, so let's plan something far from here."

Litu: "We have office on Monday, we can't go on a long trip on Sunday."

Abhi: "Yeah! Yeah! Okay! We'll wander nearby then. I'm hanging up. Ciao."

Neil: "Bye!"

Neil: "I'm bored of this internship. I'm switching it very soon."

Litu: "You've waited this long, just wait a few more days, we'll get paid. I guess."

Neil: "Yeah! Yeah!"

The Ruins 🍃 ....

The college building is two stories high. You need to walk 10 meters from the gate to enter the college. On the way, there are four benches lying on each side. All the benches have no backrests; they are all broken down. Seems like the college boys' testosterone is high. One side of the college is entirely covered with trees, and the other side is cleared up, probably to make a ground. On the darker side, there is a stony path going down from the hill.

 

Neil: "If I were in this college, my attendance would be 100%."

Litu: "Same, bro! But our future would be darker than the forest."

Neil: "This college looks like an abandoned college. At night, vampires might come to study here."

Litu: "I knew this would be coming from you."

Neil: "Come on, man! Just think."

Litu: "Yeah! Dracula will be the principal." They both laughed, and their laughter echoed around.

Neil: "Our voices are echoing. Ha ha ha."

Litu: "I'm not feeling good here. Let's go. I just watched a horror clip on YouTube last night."

Neil: "We've seen thousands of horror movies, and you're talking like this?"

Litu: "True! But we haven't experienced any."

Neil: "Don't be scared. I'm the biggest ghost here. Ha ha. Let's go down that path."

Litu: "So true. Anyway, it's getting dark. Let's eat our snacks here, then go back."

Neil: "Look at that side, the sky is still blue. It's not that dark. Let's check it out, then we'll eat here."

Litu: "Fine! You know, curiosity can kill sometimes."

 

They went down that stony path. After a couple of minutes of walking, they found a red stone, one meter in height and half a meter in width. It was dug into the earth. Neil jumped on that stone and did a Christ pose. There are a few places in this world that shouldn’t be disturbed for good and nature. Because when they are disturbed, a few not-so-good things happen, which might lead to death.

 

Neil: "Click some pictures."

Litu: "You might fall. Careful!!!" He clicked some pictures, and they came back to those benches.

Litu: "It’s really dark. Let’s go."

Neil: "Alright! I’ll drive."
